Colour Correction in Richmond Hill
Free consultation first · Your exact price before any product touches your hair
Correction is the one service we will not quote from a photo — your exact price is confirmed in person, before any product touches your hair.
If your colour did not turn out the way you were promised, you are not the first person to walk through our door holding a photo on your phone and a hat in your hand. Colour correction is one of the things Superstar Hair Studio does most, and Gilaneh — our master colourist and owner, with 25 years of experience — has spent fourteen of them on Bayview Avenue putting right work that started somewhere else.
We will tell you honestly what your hair can take, and what it cannot take today.
What we correct
- Box dye — home colour that went darker, flatter or more stubborn than the box promised
- Brassy or orange blonde — highlights or lightening that pulled warm
- Banded roots — the stripes you get when regrowth has been coloured over several times
- Green or ashy tones — usually after a home kit, a toner, or chlorine
- Uneven or patchy colour — where some sections took and others did not
- Too dark — colour that went several levels deeper than intended
- Bleach damage — where the hair needs rebuilding before it can be re-coloured at all
- Colour from another salon — brought in without judgement. We are not interested in blaming another stylist; we are interested in your hair.
Why correction is not the same as colour
A colour appointment adds something to your hair. A correction has to remove something first, and hair does not always give it up in one sitting.
Lifting an artificial colour out is harder than lifting your natural pigment, because box dye and salon colour deposit differently and sit at different depths. Push it too far in one appointment and you trade a colour problem for a condition problem — and a colour problem can be fixed, while badly over-processed hair mostly has to be grown out.
So sometimes the honest answer is two appointments, two to four weeks apart, with a bond-building treatment between them. When that is the case we will tell you at the consultation, before you have committed to anything, and we will tell you roughly what each stage costs.
What we will never do is start a correction we do not believe we can finish well.
What happens at your free consultation
1. We look at your hair in daylight. Not at a photo. Colour reads completely differently under salon lighting, phone cameras and daylight, and correction decisions get made on what is actually there.
2. We ask what has been on it. Every box, every toner, every home kit, how long ago. Nothing you tell us will get a reaction — it only helps us predict how your hair will behave.
3. We may test a small section. A strand test tells us in twenty minutes what guessing would take a whole appointment to find out.
4. You get a plan and a price before we begin. One visit or two, what each stage involves, what it will cost, and what your hair will realistically look like at the end of it.
The consultation is free and there is no obligation. If we think another salon is a better fit for what you want, we will say so.

Frequently asked
Can you fix box dye?
Usually, yes. Box dye is the single most common correction we do. How much we can lift in one visit depends on how many times it has been applied and how dark it went. We will tell you at the consultation whether it is one appointment or two.
How much does colour correction cost?
Every correction is priced for your hair with Gilaneh — what you pay depends on how much colour has to come out, how long and thick your hair is, and whether it needs one visit or two. You get your exact quote at your free consultation, before we start.
How long does it take?
Most corrections run three to five hours. Bigger changes are split across two appointments.
Will my hair be damaged?
Correction always involves some chemical work, so protecting the hair is part of the plan rather than an afterthought. We use bond-building treatments during lightening, and if we think a correction would leave your hair in poor condition we will tell you and propose a slower route instead.
Can you fix hair coloured at another salon?
Yes, and we do it often. No judgement, no questions about who did it.
Do you speak Farsi?
Yes. Gilaneh and most of our team speak Farsi. For correction work especially, being able to describe exactly what happened and what you want in your own language makes a real difference to the result. این صفحه به فارسی هم موجود است
